- Photograph damage before cleanup: the roof from the ground, the exterior, and any leaks or ceiling stains inside.
- If water is coming in, move belongings, catch the leak from inside, and call for emergency tarping once it’s safe.
- Get a free roof inspection, then make repairs under permit.
- Beware of storm chasers: check any contractor’s license at myfloridalicense.com and get a written, itemized estimate.
During a declared state of emergency, Florida law lets you cancel a residential roof repair or replacement contract within 10 days of signing or by the official start date, whichever comes first (s. 489.147, Fla. Stat.).
